Using Clay For Better Health?

Be Healthier with Life…Supplemented and @WannaBeWell

I am always looking for ways to improve the health of my family and myself.  I really enjoy reading articles and tips about health, so when I was recently given the opportunity to download an app called WannaBeWell from Life…Supplemented, I was excited!  This is a great app, especially if you find yourself lacking time to do things or you just don't know WHERE to look for information about health, diet, dietary supplements, and more.

I thought it was neat that you can pick your own coach and customize him/her with outfits and such.  It's just a fun little detail to the program that makes it a little more motivational!  Your coach will give you daily motivational messages to keep you moving toward a healthier lifestyle.

I like that this app gives me tips on how to change my diet to a healthier one.  Some of the tips are things I've heard before and that's okay, I need reminders!  But I LOVE the fact that all of the tips and information are right there, compacted into one smart little app!

You can also receive "Healthy Mission" challenges from your Wellness Coach to collect trophies.  This makes it more like a game and gives you something to work towards.  The tasks aren't hard at all, maybe just to eat a salad with your lunch or to take the stairs instead of the elevator if you're given the chance, but they're little things that you can incorporate into your life to make you healthier.

“Genetic Roulette” Movie

I haven't had the time to sit down and watch this whole movie, but with California's vote to make it required to label any and all foods containing GMOs, I think it's a great time to watch it.  It's a one-sided documentary, for sure, but the points they make are completely valid.  (Except the remark about evolution, but that's easily dismissable.)  For more information, visit the Genetic Roulette site.

Tips for Keeping my Family Well During Cold & Flu Season!

I'm not a doctor or a nurse and my kids and I are sick more often than I'd like, but it happens.  BUT to keep my family well during cold and flu season, here are a few things I do!
1.  Wash hands often.  This is obvious, but if your kids are touching EVERYTHING like mine are, it's a must!  I'm not as diligent about it as I should be, but if we're out and about, I try to wash their hands when we get back, for sure, but also while we're out.  Get a handy-dandy no touch soap dispenser from Lysol!  That way, the soap pump doesn't get germy!
2.  Use hand sanitizer if we can't get to soap and water.  There are some awesome sanitizers out there, like Prefense and BabyGanics, without alcohol so they're non-drying.
3.  Sanitize commonly touched/used surfaces with products like Lysol wipes.  Doorknobs, faucets, toilet seats, flushers, even toys need to be wiped clean every so often, especially when someone in the house has been sick!
4.  Eat well.  Eating yummy things like oranges and other fruits and vegetables will help you stay strong and healthy!
5.  Drink your water!
6.  Take your vitamins for the extra "stuff" that helps your body fight off illnesses that your diet lacks.
7.  Use a high chair/cart cover when out and about to help protect your little one (and you) from those nasty germs.
8.  And my personal favorite….get lots of sleep!  I know it's really, really hard at times, but do what you can to stay rested up!!  Take a nap, if you can!

Swimming Sickies?

This is random, but hear me out.  Then feel free to offer me some advice, or just tell me I'm crazy.
We have a little kiddie swimming pool in our backyard.  I have to get IN with Baby D, so he's only been three times.  ALL THREE TIMES he has gotten sick afterwards.  Coincidence? I think not.  He goes outside in the backyard without going swimming often.  What is it about getting in the water in the pool in the backyard that makes him sick?
Then, two days ago, the Captain, Baby D, and I went swimming.  The next day, runnnnnny nose, sneezing, overall grumpiness.  This was also the third time Baby D got sick after swimming.  So the next day, he felt better, no runny nose, no sneezing.  Last night, the Captain went swimming again because he felt better.  This morning? YUP!  Horrible runny nose, up twice last night, sneezing, grumpiness.  AGAIN.  But yet, Baby D is just fine. He didn't go swimming last night.
WHAT.IS.UP with that pool?  Did the boys inherit my horrible allergies (I didn't get sick after "swimming," mind you).  Is there something in the water?  Baby D was in there for 15 minutes and didn't get his hair wet.
This is really, really odd……….but I'm really, really tired of the snot around here.
