Octoberfest Giveaway Hop featuring Learning Journey International! {closed}

This giveaway was part of the Octoberfest Giveaway Hop hosted by Planet Weidknecht and Going Crazy!! Wanna Go??!!

I have talked about The Learning Journey International toys before and so I was excited for the boys to get to review the new Count & Learn ATM Machine!  I think we received it in the mail about two weeks ago and the boys still play with it every day.  It is so much fun and kids can learn so much from just playing with it!

The Count & Learn ATM Machine has three different play modes:  free play, banking, and find it.  Each mode encourages the child to actively play with the plastic coins, ATM card, and ATM machine, all while learning and responding to the voice prompt.  There are five different coin values, all in different colors, so the kids can practice their numbers and colors with the ATM machine.

the learning journey international

In the banking mode, kids are encouraged to insert the plastic ATM card and enter their pin number, which is given by voice command.  I like the fact that encouraging words are used when prompting the child to enter a number or coin.

The Learning Journey

The boys really play well together with the ATM machine, which is good news for any parent who feels like they have to get two of everything to stop the fighting!  There are enough coins and it is a big enough toy that they can share.  I do wish there were two ATM cards to play with, but that's really the only thing I would change!  There is a spot on the side to store your ATM card and coins, which is handy and smart!

Check out The Learning Journey International's video for the ATM Machine:

Family Health and Fitness Day 2012

Today is the 16th Annual Family Health and Fitness Day!  The purpose of this day is to encourage physical activity in your family, not only today, but every day of the year to improve the health of our nation.  There are many events going on today at schools, parks, hospitals, YMCA, YWCA, malls, health clubs,  health departments, places of worship, and other locations.  Check out the Family Health and Fitness Day website for more information.

If you aren't able to find any events nearby, why not create a special memory with your family, such as going for a walk, riding bikes, playing a game outdoors such as soccer, basketball, football, etc, or even playing some music and dancing with your family in the living room?  The options are endless and you will all feel better after getting up and moving.

Our family started off the day by going to Captain Fussybuckets' soccer game in the cold rain!  He usually lies low and just has a few assists, but today he scored three goals!  Way to go, little buddy!

Now…for the rest of us to get some exercise today!  What will you be doing with your family today??

Celebrate Halloween with Smiley Cookies!

We love Smiley Cookies!  We had the opportunity to try some of their Christmas cookies and they were a huge hit with my family.  Recently, we were able to sample some of their delicious Halloween cookies and they didn't disappoint!

When the box came in the mail, the Captain read the word "cookie" on the side of the box and was SO excited!  What's better for a 3 1/2 year old than cookies in the mail?

When we opened the box and pulled out the bag of freshly baked Smiley Halloween Cookies, we had to try them out.  Taking a picture of an excited three year old with cookies is pretty difficult, however…

This is what the Halloween Smiley Cookies look like:

I love how they're cute, orange, and not scary looking, so you can tell they're Halloween cookies, but not the scary Halloween cookies!

The Captain and Baby D LOVED these cookies and it was hard for them to eat them in moderation.  Daddy and I loved them, too.  I really, really love the icing they use on their cookies.  It's got to be one of my favorite treats and reminds me of my childhood.

These Halloween Smiley cookies are about 2 1/2 inches, which is the perfect size for little hands in the classroom, at a party, or even for Halloween trick or treating or Fall Festivals.  You can order them individually wrapped, just for that purpose!  These cookies are nut free, Kosher, and under 100 calories each.

Check out Smiley Cookies for Halloween treats and Halloween gifts!  Follow Smiley Cookies on Facebook, too.  And, you can use code "BLOG10" at checkout to save 10% on any unwrapped Halloween Smiley Cookies!  What a perfect Halloween gift or treat for someone special!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Wordless Wednesday: Cousins

Kid Basix – Safe, Fun Water Bottles for Kids!

stainless steel cups

We have a lot of sippy cups and water bottles in this house, I'll admit.  We've tried a bunch of different brands and some work and some aren't so great.  I think a lot of parents can identify, so I want to introduce you to a brand that we really love!  Kid Basix has a great line of bottles, sippy cups, and water bottles for all different stages of your child's life.  They make quality, food grade stainless steel, BPA free, phthalate free, latex free products for your little one!

We were sent the Safe Sporter to review:

The Safe Sporter has a lot of great features that make this a great water bottle.  The cap is easy to open and clicks to close, keeping dirt and other gunk off the spout when not in use.  It also closes the spout when the cap closes, preventing leaks and spills.  The pull spout is easy for Captain Fussybuckets to open, but Baby D still needs a little help.  (He probably should be using a sippy cup but you know, he's MUCH too big for that..in his opinion…haha!)

I really like the sleeve of the water bottle.  The bottle itself isn't insulated, so if you put anything cold it in, it is cold to the touch.  The sleeve makes it easy and comfortable to hold.  (It isn't recommended that you put anything hot in the Safe Sporter, as it could burn.)

stainless steel

Both of my boys have really loved using the Safe Sporter and I would recommend it to anyone with toddlers or preschoolers.  Kid Basix has really jam packed the great water bottle features with the Safe Sporter!

Join the FUN Color in Motion 5k in Dallas, TX on November 17 and win tickets, too!

Hey Fussybuckets fans, I’m Kate and I’m excited to be guest blogging here today because the Color in Motion 5K is offering a RAD GIVEAWAY: a free entry in our upcoming race in Dallas on November 17 at Fair Park.
So what is it? When I first heard of the Color in Motion 5K I was a little hesitant…running….colored powder from India…dancing. But then I thought about it and realized, “my life is so boring! Why don’t I want more fun in my life? More culture? More liveliness and definitely more color!” So now, obviously, I paint with all the colors of the wind. In other words, for the color in Motion 5k, I’m sold.  So yeah, my original question—what is it? It’s just a 5k with awesome colors—that’s it.
In this 5k, you show up in your clean whites, grab some color (included in your race packet), and start running, walking, crawling, or dancing to the finish line. Every kilometer there is a “color station” where volunteers spray you with colored powder as you go by. (Tip: if you want to be delicately sprinkled with the rainbow, stick to the inside. If you are embracing color in your life, hang out in the outer lanes to ensure optimal color exposure.) When you finish, it’s time to use your color packet for the post race color party.
So reunite with your inner child and color outside the lines this time. Let your friends and family join in the fun because after all, don’t we all just need a little more color in our lives? (Think Dorothy…where trouble melts like lemon drops, etc.)
Just enter below to win a free entry!
Oh yeah, the most important part! The Color in Motion 5K wants to give back to the Dallas community.  Feel good knowing that a portion of our proceeds will go grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. A minimum of $5,000 will be donated to Make-A-Wish Foundation North Texas.

When Seasons Change featuring One Jackson

**It appears as though One Jackson is out of business and has been aquired by TaskRabbit since I wrote this post.**

Two great bloggers from And The Little Ones Too and Taking Time for Mommy and a bunch of other bloggers have teamed up to bring you the When Seasons Change Blog Hop!!  I LOVE Fall and I'm so thrilled that it's almost here!  Fall is definitely my favorite season and I want to celebrate with YOU!

Our sponsor for this great event is the fabulous children's clothing and accessory company – One Jackson.  One Jackson has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, and Petit Vogue!  Their clothes are simply adorable and I'm so glad we were able to review some of their great, adorable clothes!  With Fall approaching, you'll want to check out their super cute hoodies, pants, and long sleeved shirts for your child!

Captain Fussybuckets was so excited to get to open and unwrap his One Jackson clothes!!

gift wrap

The Captain tried on his aqua bicycle shirt first.  He loves bicycles and I think this color looks great on him!  It is so soft and comfortable and should get a lot of use this Fall and Winter:

Next, I had him try on this "Live With Nature" hoodie and olive colored twill jeans:

One Jackson

I love the feeling of the inside of the hoodie.  It is soft and luxurious!  The pants are a bit roomy for my skinny guy, but they have an adjustable waistband so they stay up!  He really thought these clothes were "cool" and they look great.

I also ordered the olive twill pants for Baby D, too, in size 2T.  One Jackson only goes down to a 2T, so it is the smallest size they had.  They, too, have an adjustable waistband and thus, fit well through the waist.  I just rolled up the bottom of the pants and he was good to go.

The "Fox Badge hoodie" he is wearing is also soft and comfy, like the Captain's hoodie.  Baby D didn't really like wearing the hood, but it's a good option to have for colder days when we need to keep his ears warm and cozy!

The One Jackson clothing items in this review were all between $20 and $37, so, a good price for the quality and adorable-ness of the clothes!  One Jackson has a lot of great stuff to choose from for boys and girls.  Their search options are so easy, too, one of the most user friendly sites I've found for shopping for clothes, in fact!

Find One Jackson on Facebook!

The lovely people at One Jackson are going to give one reader a $100 gift certificate to spend on anything their heart desires at OneJackson.com!  What an awesome (and cute!) way to get your child's wardrobe ready for fall!  Just enter in the Rafflecopter form below!  Good luck!!!

Giveaway has ended and Jessica O. is the lucky winner!

The Surprises of Motherhood

My boys surprise me on a daily basis.  I always get a chuckle out of the things that they do because really….who would've ever thought that…

1.  hand vacs could be so entertaining for a three year old?

three year old

2.  or that it would be my responsibility to carry all of their stuff in what seemed like a roomy diaper bag, until you have to shove a cloth diaper and wipes, three sippy cups, snacks, and a big toy truck in it…

After the boys go to bed is when I find the really big surprises….like toy snakes in my bedroom floor or Lightning McQueen in my bathtub.  But who would've guessed that I would ever find…

a harmonica next to my toothpaste?

or Daddy's old Ninja Turtle there to greet me in the bathroom when I wake up?

It's the little things that make me chuckle.  Like how the Captain thought the towel ring looked better like this, with the towel likely on the floor:

upside down

Oh, kids.  They keep me guessing, laughing, and stepping on random things in the night.  How about your kids?
