Our family had the opportunity to review an awesome company, Zaycon Foods.  Zaycon uses the buying power of many families to negotiatie huge savings on food purchases.  They provide fresh from the farm/processor foods and sell it by the case in a super organized sales event.  I participated in the Zaycon chicken breasts event and luckily, there was going to be a delivery near where I live.  All you have to do is sign up for the Zaycon newsletter and they will send you an email when any event is in your area.  If you want to buy, you log on to the Zaycon Foods website, purchase your items, and then mark your calendar for the pick-up date.  They usually designate an hour on a certain day that you can pick up your food and here's why:  The fresh food comes in a refrigerated truck (or at least it does for meat products) and all you do is drive up to the nice delivery person, state your name, and they load the food into your car FOR YOU.  When I picked up my chicken, I had both boys in the van and the nice guy opened up the back, put down plastic in case of leakage (genius!) and loaded the 40 lbs. box of chicken into my car for me.  The whole process was less than 2 minutes!

When we got home, I opened up the box of chicken:

It was about four, sealed bags of chicken inside another sealed bag to prevent leaks.  I separated it all into plastic freezer bags, maybe 4-6 breasts in each bag.  I made a LOT of these bags:

FORTY pounds of chicken!  And do you know how much it was selling for at the Zaycon event?  $71.60!!!!!  That is $1.79 a pound for fresh, never frozen, delicious, 100% chicken with no added hormones, additives, or artificial ingredients!

We have eaten this chicken a few times, in chicken quesadillas and chicken salads and it is fabulous!  We all love it!

Zaycon Foods have many yummy foods to offer besides chicken, such as ham, lean ground beef, bacon, cod, salmon, honey, turkey, fruit, and much more, depending on the season!  Visit Zaycon today and sign up for their informative e-mail, to be alerted when they have an event in your area!  Also, be sure to follow Zaycon on Twitter and Facebook.

  1. Wow, $1.79 per pound for organic chicken is pretty awesome! My grocery store charges like $5 per pound for the heavily processed stuff. I wish I had a big freezer, i would definitely look into this.

    • I don’t think it’s organic chicken čÖü but Zaycon promises there’s no antibiotics or additives, so that’s not too bad. And I only have a fridge/freezer and all this chicken fit on one shelf! I had to clean the freezer out to make room, but it’s pretty compact!

      • They do NOT promise no antibiotics, only no hormones, which is illegal to give to poultry.

        • When this post was written, they did promise no antibiotics because I got the info straight from the site. ┬áIt appears that their information has changed since then.

          • Thank you. I didn't mean at all that you were purposely misrepresenting the product.

They use a fair amount of careful wording that makes me suspicious – for example, no antibiotics or hormones "in" the beef. This doesn't mean they were never given the drugs – only that they went through the required withdrawal period and were then randomly tested for residue as per USDA guidelines.

I have a call in because they say antibiotics are only "administered" to chickens when they need it as per a vet's call. This seems to skirt around the question of if they are routinely fed antibiotics (or arsenic.) Both are legal but Zaycon did not know exactly offhand. (They will find out and let me know.)

  2. Sounds delicious! What a great deal.

  3. We did the chicken delivery thing with a local company. I need to check out Zaycon to see if they deliver near us. Getting 40 lbs of chicken at once is a great deal for us, as we eat at least 3-4 lbs of it per week.
