There has been a LOT of attention on and controversy over "pink slime"….the cow byproduct "cleaned" with ammonia and used as a meat filler in hamburger meat. I've read conflicting reports. Some say it's no big deal and we consume just as much ammonia eating other popular food items. That's all well and good, but WHY is all I want to know. WHY is it "okay" to eat crap? (sorry, Mom, and others not a fan of the "c" word.) Sure it has been deemed "safe" but WHY is it okay? Shouldn't it be our goal to rid the world of the nasties in our food? I think so. And if you don't, well, that's your perogative.
McDonald's, Burger King, and Taco Bell have all removed Pink Slime from their food and HEB has released a statement that their beef is 100% beef and contains no "pink slime."
I just think we deserve better. Our kids deserve better. And if you agree, here is a handy dandy petition that you can sign to keep the nasty stuff out of our grocery stores and out of our kids' cafeterias. Because, yes, it might be cheaper to use pink slime, but I have known a LOT of kids who only eat one meal a day and that's the school cafeteria meal. I just think that growing kids need something better to eat than pink slime. That's all I'm saying…..
Anyway, I'll stop with the ranting, but like I said, if you agree, click here to sign the petition to tell the USDA to keep Pink Slime out of our kids' cafeterias!
