Captain Fussybuckets goes to the dentist!

This morning Daddy, the Captain, and I went to the dentist for our regular cleanings.  Or maybe NOT so regular, since we hadn’t been to the dentist since….last fall, maybe.  We left Baby D home with our good friend and good thing we did, since we were gone for about 3 hours!  Yikes!

But…the Captain did well!  Check out the pics:

He was kind of a stinker at the end of the visit.  The dental hygienist gave him a sticker and a coupon for free fries at “Old McDonald’s” and he pointed to a cool, sparkly pencil and said he wanted that, too.  I guess he thought that he had waited a LONG time to see the doctor, so he was going to get the most out of it.

Dear Lady and Chick-Fil-A,

Dear Lady with a Louis Vuitton handbag, talking on your iPhone and not facing the play area at Chick-Fil-A where your grandson is playing,
The place is a madhouse because you and other grandparents and parents aren’t watching your children.  Sure, it’s Family Night, but that doesn’t mean it’s Send Your Child Into a Closed Area and Let Them Go Crazy Night. My (almost) 3 year old wasn’t scared to be in there, but honestly, I was, so I pulled him out.  And the little girl who busted her lip because of the craziness, poor thing, I hope she didn’t have to get stitches.
Dear Chick-Fil-A,
Family Night is awesome.  My son got an awesome face painting and an alien balloon.  He loved it.  But you might want to hire some bodyguards for the play area.
Thanks,
Mommy Fussybuckets

Audio Books!

Let’s get the truth out there:  I don’t read much.  I LOVE to read, but I just never can find the time to do so.  I used to love to read in high school, when I had a bunch of free time, but now, I just don’t.  So, what about audio books?  I can listen to them on the way to the store, post office, church, etc, etc, etc.  Or I could listen to them while doing just about anything:  cleaning the house, cooking dinner, or even relaxing before bed.

There is a WORLD of audio books out there…now to only decide on one!  The possibilities are endless, really….from Biblical books, to romance novels, to parenting how-to’s, to scary stories (which I don’t do, for the record!)

They even have children’s audio books!  But wait, the point was for ME to get to listen to an audio book, wasn’t it???

“English Idioms And Expressions For Everyone, Yes, Even You!” by Reza Mashayekhi

I was able to review the book:  "English Idioms And Expressions For Everyone, Yes, Even You!" by Reza Mashayekhi.  This book was written for foreigners and people learning English as a second language, but it is helpful for anyone who speaks English.  It is full of idioms and expressions in the English language.  Some of these I didn't know!

(Are you trying to remember what, exactly, an idiom is?)

id·i·om

 [id-ee-uhm]

noun

1.

an expression whose meaning is not predictable from the usual meanings of its constituent elements

Here are a few of my favorites from the book:

"Stick a fork in it!" which means "Something having been completed."

"Monday morning quarterback" which means "A person who finds fault and blames others AFTER everything has already been done."

"Dead presidents" meaning "cash" or "money"

This book is like a dictionary or any other reference book.  You can easily look up idioms and expressions that you may not know.  I have to point out that there are adult words and themes in this book, since it is a book about the English language.  It's not crude or bad, but this being a family blog, I should point that out in case you're thinking of, I don't know, buying this book for your 8 year old or something! :o)

The author, Reza Mashayekhi, was born and reared in Tehran, Iran. He later attended the University of Michigan, where he received a degree in aerospace engineering.
