Mat Kearney: “Young Love” album review

I had the opportunity to listen to the new album by Mat Kearney called "Young Love."  I've been out of touch with the new music scene since having kids (bad excuse, I know!) so I had never heard of him.  But after listening to this album, I can honestly tell you, he's GOOD.

The first track "Hey Mama" is very contagious.  It's one of those feel good songs that gets stuck in your head, but you don't really care.  Totally addicting!

The the second song "Ships In The Night," Mat's "rapping"/"talking" reminds me of Everlast from the 90's. (I don't listen to Everlast, I just know what he sounds like. :o)

The rest of the album I would categorize together.  The first two songs sound different than the rest.  The rest of the album is GOOD, don't get me wrong, but the first two songs are a change from the rest of the album.

To sum it up, Mat's album is very easy to listen to.  There are upbeat songs, slow songs, and all seem to have a very good story behind them.  It's not the kind of music I usually listen to, but I found myself singing along and enjoying it anyway.

I recommend buying "Young Love" today!  Also, check out Mat's website:  www.matkearney.com (remember! Mat with one "t"!)

Enjoy!

Disclosure:  I received a digital copy of "Young Love" by Mat Kearney to review as a member of One2One Network.  All opinions in this post are all mine.

Montagne Jeunesse masques review!

Do you like face masques? I have used a few, mostly when I was younger and childless, but they're good for a little at home pampering. I had the opportunity to try out three new masques from Montagne Jeunesse. And as soon as the package opened, Captain Fussybuckets decided he wanted to try, too! I was sent the Pore Cleansing Fruit Smoothie masque, the cucumber Anti-Stress Peel-Off masque, and the Warm Exfoliating Crystal masque with honey. I let the Captain pick which one we tried first, and he chose the Pore Cleansing Fruit Smoothie masque because it was raspberry scented. Here we are, trying the masque:
the masque had already started to harden, thus my sad attempt at a smile!
The Captain LOVED it and so did I.  As it began to dry and harden, it felt tight, but it was pretty cool.  I think I scared Baby D, though.  He just kept staring at me!  ha!

The masques are perfect for a little pick me up.  I suggest any mom that has recently taken the kids to school after a long, hot summer to try these out! They're awesome and they made my skin feel super smooth!  And my skin didn't dry out at all.

Here are the three masques I was sent, but there are MANY!  Check out your options here.

Yes, I Love Being a SAHM

A lot of people have asked me questions like "don't you want to go back to work?"  "Don't you get TIRED of staying in the house all day with your kids?"  "Do you LIKE being a stay-at-home mom?" (SAHM)  Well, I'm going to attempt to answer those questions.

Let's start with "Don't you get TIRED of staying in the house all day with your kids?"  That's the thing.  I don't HAVE to stay in the house all day with my kids.  We go to Target, Walmart, and play in the backyard (which looks like a playground thanks to the grandparents!  :o)  We go visit Daddy at work and when it gets cooler, we'll go for walks and go to the park.  (I'm NOT braving the 100+ degree temps with two little ones!)  But we also have the choice as to whether we stay inside or go outside.  I don't have to stand out in the wind/cold/heat at a scheduled time just to let my 22 kindergarteners get some playtime.  If we want to go somewhere, we do.  If we want to stay at home and play with Play Doh, we do.  And no, the TV does NOT stay on all day.  Some days we don't even turn it on.

Next up…."Do you LIKE being a stay-at-home mom?"  The answer?  Yes.  I do.  Honestly, I don't see how both parents go to work.  We have a lot of nights of interrupted sleep around here.  Last night baby D was up from basically 4-5, who knows why.  The hubby did help out a LOT, but what if we both had to get up early?  Who would have to get up with the kids?  Sleep deprivation plus 2 kids that still nap sounds way better than sleep deprivation + 22 5 and 6 year-olds who most likely do not nap because the school doesn't allow it.

Captain Fussybuckets has always been able to entertain himself.  He loves when we play with him, and I spend a lot of time playing with his "horsey blocks," Play Doh, and coloring with him, but he's also able to play by himself, like right now while Baby D is napping, allowing me to type up this quick blog post. I think he takes after me.  We both need a little "me" time throughout the day.

Now…"don't you want to go back to work?"  First things first, being a stay-at-home mom IS work.  It's a LOT of work.  If you don't believe that, come to my house for a couple of days and let me sit back and drink tea while you take care of the kids, housework (not spotless, just not dirty in most cases!), cooking, etc, etc, etc.  And not just 9-5, it's 24/7.  Sometimes the hubs will be here to help you (and he is a very good helper, unlike a lot of dads!), but he cannot be here at all times.

But to answer the question…….no, I don't want to go back to work right now.  I am so thankful that God has led us here so I can stay at home and take care of the kids.  I know a LOT of moms simply don't have that option.  I admire those women because working outside of the home must be SO hard.  Sending your kids to a baby-sitter/daycare/school, getting up early and getting ready, having to smile and perform at your job when other stuff might be going on at home, having to take off work because your kid is sick, etc, etc, etc.  You have hard jobs!!!

Anyway, maybe someday I'll go back to work.  But for right now, we're all happy.  I'm not losing my mind (yet,) the boys are happy, I don't need a break, and I don't miss teaching (yet) because I teach my own boys.  I love many aspects of teaching and I wouldn't trade that for the world, but right now, THIS is my calling.  And I'm so lucky that I'm able to do it.

Kudos to all of you parents out there….stay-at-home, work-at-home, work out of the home…..you rock.  Being a parent is a tough job, but it's the best job ever!

disclaimer #1:  I'm not mad or tired of people asking these questions, I'm just addressing them.  I do not have a chip on my shoulder and I'm not bitter.  My main point in writing this was actually just to express my feelings and maybe another stay-at-home mom or two could identify with what I'm saying.  This was NOT written in anger!  :o)

disclaimer #2: None of this applies when my kids are sick.  They don't sleep, eat, and are grumpy.  Nothing makes them happy.  When that happens, I want to lock myself in a soundproof room and sleep while someone else takes care of them.    I am just being totally honest here, people.  :o)

Sticker You Make+Print review

I was sent a package of home Make+Print stickers from Sticker You to try out.  Sticker You has many options for their home Make+Print stickers, such as round stickers and iron-on transfers, but I was sent the rectangle shaped, glossy stickers:

sticker
The stickers came with a code.  I was given the instructions to log on to their website:  www.stickeryou.com and enter the code when making the labels.  You can use the code up to twice the amount of labels in the package.  (good for mess ups or forgetting to load the stickers into the printer!  ha!)

Stickeryou.com has a TON of options when creating.  You can choose from many cute images, including but definitely not limited to:  Dora the Explorer, Lego, Coca-Cola, MLS, Max & Ruby, Ford, Mr. Men Little Miss, and lots more!!  You can also upload your own images, add text and other cool things!

Here's what I made:

for a birthday card
(it's off centered, but that's my own fault for improperly loading it in the printer!)

musical instruments for Captain Fussybuckets – he chose to stick it on his toy box
I also have plans to use the remaining stickers for the boys' birthday invitations or possibly a sticker chart for the Captain.  The options are just endless!

Thanks a lot, Bubble Guppies.

We just watched the Bubble Guppies episode called "Bubble Puppy."  It's about, if you didn't already guess, getting a new puppy or pet.

So, I'm feeding the boys breakfast and Captain Fussybuckets says: "I think I need a pet."
me: "umm…….what pet?"
CF: "I think ……. a guinea pig.  No…..a dog!"
me:  "Dogs bark a LOT.  We don't need a dog."
CF:  "how about…a cat?"
me:  "cats make me sneeze."
CF:  "outside?"
me:  "they'll run away outside."
(really, I have no clue.  I've never had a cat.  Do they stay in backyards??  I would think not, but who knows.)
CF:  "Do you like gorilla gators?"

Good.  This conversation turned silly.  But I'm afraid this isn't the end.  If all else fails, we can get him a fish, right?

disclaimer:  "Bubble Guppies" is an awesome show on Nick Jr.  Seriously, I love that show and so does he.

(If you're reading this and have the thought: "Oh I could get him a pet for his birthday."  Nooooo!  We do not need a pet.  We have two boys.  That's good enough.  :o)

Keith Urban concert!

Last night Daddy and I had a "date night" while Grandma watched the boys.  We went to the American Airlines Center in Dallas (home of the Mavs!!) to see Keith Urban in concert and we had a blast!  We didn't take any camera besides Daddy's phone, so we didn't get any good pictures, but the show was amazing!!!

Keith performed old songs that I love, along with new songs that I love.  He didn't sing "Your Everything," which is one of his older, slow love songs that Daddy and I had played at our wedding.  I get it though, you have to phase out the old stuff and you can't have too many slow songs, but that was a bummer.  BUT he has plenty of newer slow songs that are amazing, like "Without You" and "Making Memories of Us."  And, of course, there were many fast songs, such as Captain Fussybuckets' favorite which he calls "The Guitar Song," but is really called "Put You In A Song." (here is CF "playing" the guitar song:)

Okay, back to the concert.  Keith seems SO down to earth still, after all of his fame.  He interacted with the fans and walked through a swarming crowd a few times to get to different places on the floor so he could interact with more than just the front row.  Towards the end of the concert, he walked back to a little platform in the back, which was RIGHT below us.  He played a song and then…he gave his guitar to a sweet little younger teenager.  She was thrilled beyond belief.  He clearly had hand selected her.  I wonder if maybe she was singing all of the words to his song so he KNEW she was a true fan.  I watched him reach down and grab her hands and put them on the guitar, so she and everyone else would know he meant to give it to her.  ahhhh…it was so sweet.  I'm sure that was the highlight of her year!

What else?  I could go on and on and on…but here are a few other things about the night:

1.  The fad for girls going to concerts in 105 degree weather (outside, the AAC does have AC…) is a baby doll dress and big cowboy boots.  Literally over half of the crowd was wearing this outfit.

2.  Older people love Keith, too.  I promise I saw a couple of 80 year old women!

3.  Keith genuinely thanked the crowd for coming out.  He said that he knows a lot of people are going through very hard times and uncertainty, but whatever it took for them to come to the show, he was extremely grateful.  I don't know how many famous people would even think to say that.

4.  Keith came out for his encore wearing a Mavs jersey and sang "We Are The Champions."  Oh yeah.

5.  Concerts are louder than they used to be (yes, this statement makes me old,) even 5 years ago when we saw Keith last.

6.  They added some video clips to the show since we saw him last and that is just awesome!!

7. There are a TON of people working behind the scenes.  A.TON.

And can I just say that while I don't know that it's true because I don't know the man personally, but I think his wife Nicole and two little girls have softened his heart.  He's always been sincere and sweet to me, but I dunno, it's much different.  It's clear to me that something has changed since we saw him 5 years ago, and I think that's it.

Way to go, Keith, you're awesome.

"meeting" Keith  :o)
(yes, I was a little embarassed…ha!)
